Kerrang Magazine Interview - Lead Sails, Paper Anchor

Anchor’s Aweigh!
Atreyu prepare to set sail with major label debut.

Atreyu have completed work on their major label debut ‘Lead Sails, Paper Anchor’, the follow-up to their 2006 album ‘A Deathgrip On Yesterday’. The album – their first after leaving Victory – was produced by Goldfinger frontman John Feldmann and, according to drummer Brandon Saller, this album represents a more collaborative effort.

“We just finished everything and we’re really psyched,” says Saller. “For the most part Alex[Varkatzas, vocalist] is the lyric guy. There’s always things on his mind but there was more of a group effort on this record. It was cool for everyone to give their interpretation of his ideas and lyrics and we all put in our two cents. There’s not one topic in general, just lots of different issues, whether it be regarding a death in the family, addictions, politics or relationship issues. There’s a song for everybody!”

The track-listing is as follows: ‘Doomsday’, ‘Honor’, ‘Falling Down’, ‘Becoming The Bull’, ‘Slow Burn’, ‘Two Become One’, ‘No One Cares’, ‘Can’t Happen Here’, ‘Lose It’, ‘Blow’, and ‘Lead Sails (And A Paper Anchor)’.

Buckcherry vocalist Josh Todd will make a guest appearance on the album. “He sings on ‘Blow’,” explains Saller. “When we wrote the song we thought it had a very classic rock vibe. We thought his voice would be perfect for it and he was totally into it!”

The band are currently preparing to head out on the Family Values tour in the States this summer with Korn, Evanescence, and Flyleaf and are eager to showcase the new material. “I think it’s gonna be really awesome,” says the drummer. “It’s just a great opportunity to play to a totally different audience to the ones we’re used to playing to. We can’t wait!”

‘Lead Sails, Paper Anchor’ will be released on August 28 through Hollywood.
